Antidepressant-like effect of inosine in CUS test.

During 4 weeks of CUS, mice were allowed access to a diet supplemented with or without inosine (1 mg/g) ad libitum. (a) Inosine decreased CUS-prolonged immobility time in FST (n = 10 per group). (b), (c) Administration of inosine enhanced cell proliferation in the brain during CUS. Mice with (+) or without inosine (−) (n = 10 per group) were injected with BrdU for 3 consecutive days on the 3rd week and sacrificed after the 4th week of CUS. Brain sections were immunostained with anti-BrdU antibody (b). Scale bar: 100 μm. The number of BrdU-positive cells in the DG was counted (c). Data represent mean ± s.e. *P < 0.05.
