Visualisation of the edge effects.
(a) VCPD and (b) ΔVCPD = VCPD(Vg) − VCPD (0) line profiles at the edge of the graphene channel. The vertical dashed lines mark out the graphene-SiC edge. The line profile at Vg = 0 in (a) shows that electronic properties up to ~60 nm from the edge of the channel are inherently different compared to bulk. The normalised line profiles in (b) take into account the inherent changes in the work function of the device, thereby only showing ΔVCPD as a result of the side-gates. Solid lines are a guide for the eye only.
