Transferrin conjugated Quantum dots are actively internalized by peritoneal macrophages and dendritic cells but not by epithelial cells and showed no genotoxicity.

Uptake of FITC labeled Zn-RIF-Tf-QDs by (A) peritoneal macrophages, dendritic cells and lung epithelial cells. (B,C) Determination of genomic instability in Zn-RIF-Tf-QDs treated macrophages. RAW 264.7 cells were treated with indicated concentrations of Zn-RIF-Tf-QDs for 24 h. Untreated cells were used as control. DNA damage was determined by (B) Micronuclei assay and (C) Comet assay.
