Consequences of cortactin depletion in endothelial cells.

Loss of cortactin leads to decreased adrenomedullin secretion, reduced cAMP-dependent Rap1 activation, increased ROCK-1 protein levels, increased MLC phosphorylation and contractile stress-fibre formation and as a consequence increased endothelial permeability. If other ROCK1 targets such as zipper-interacting protein kinase (ZIPK) or myosin light chain phosphatase (MLCP) also contribute to barrier regulation in this system is not yet known (question marks).
