NADPH-diaphorase staining using whole-mount preparations after BAC treatment.

(a,b) Two days after BAC treatment. NADPH-diaphorase-positive neurons and fibers in the myenteric plexus were no longer observed in the treated areas; however, neurons remained in the intact, non-BAC treated, areas. ((a) wildtype, n = 3, (b) W/Wv, n = 3). (c,d) Two weeks after BAC treatment. Numerous regenerating nerve fibers were observed in the longitudinal muscle layer of both wildtype (n = 3) (c) and W/Wv (n = 3) mice (d). In W/Wv mice (d) a few NADPH+ cells (arrows) were visible, but not in the wildtype mice (c). (e,f) Three weeks after BAC treatment. A few NADPH+ cells were detected in wildtype mice (n = 7) (arrows in e). W/Wv had abundant NADPH+ cells (n = 8) (arrows in f). Scale bar, 200 μm (a–f).
