Conversion of exogenous lactate into glutamate in ischemic core.

Two-dimensional maps were reconstructed from matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization imaging mass spectrometry (MALDI-IMS) imaging of metabolites and shown as an overlay in optical heart section images. Images were normalized with total ion current (TIC). Representative images are shown. NADH imaging was used to determine the region of ischemic myocardium. The right lane is the merge of 13C2-glutamate and NADH. Experiments were repeated at least four times with reproducible results. Abbreviations: Glu, glutamate.
