Cigarette smoke extract (CSE) induces concentration- and time-dependent accumulation of hypoxia-inducible factor 1α (HIF-1α) protein under non-hypoxic conditions.
Human lung adenocarcinoma A549 cells were exposed to the indicated concentrations of CSE under 20% O2 (a,c) and 1% O2 (d) for 4 h or to 2% CSE for the indicated time-periods (b). The cell lysates were immunoblotted (IB) with the indicated antibodies. Experiments were repeated at least twice in triplicate and representative blots are shown.
