(a) Excitonic resonance energy and (b) binding energy (difference between the position of the excitonic peak and the GW direct band gap) as a function of the electric field applied to a MoS2 bilayer. Experimental data for the peak position from ref. 5 are also presented for comparison. Note the opposite trend of peak position and binding energies for the excitons: while exciton II has a peak position that depends strongly on applied field its binding energy is constant, and vice versa for exciton A.
