Ethanol and acetaldehyde induces a synergistic production of ROS by a Ca2+-dependent mechanism.

MitoSOXTM and H2DCF-DA-loaded Caco-2 cell monolayers were incubated with 75 mM ethanol (EtOH) or 200 μM acetaldehyde (AA) (A) or acetaldehyde (200 μM) added 10 min after 75 mM ethanol (EtOH+AA) in the absence (B) or presence (C) of Ca2+-free medium. Real-time change in [Ca2+]i was imaged at varying times.
