13C NMR spectra of (a) IE3 (isoeugenol polymerised at room temperature) (b) IE4 (isoeugenol polymerised at 38 °C. An increasing number of peaks around 84.2 ppm show the presence of significant quantities of the β-O-4′ moiety. Also the increased intensity of the peak at 191.5 ppm with relation to the aromatic peaks shows that an increase in oxidation has occurred promoting the formation of an aldehyde.
