Taming harmful bursts and heat flux in high-confinement tokamak plasmas

Tokamak walls suffer erosion from steady and bursty heat loads. Here, the authors demonstrate that optimizing 3D magnetic field and cooling gas injection can tame destructive plasma bursts while enabling cooler, safer exhaust conditions.

Milestone in predicting core plasma turbulence: successful multi-channel validation of the gyrokinetic code GENE

Plasma turbulence is the main driver to deteriorate the performance of fusion power plants. This work presents an unprecedented comparison of plasma turbulence between experiment and simulation, proving that the gyrokinetic model GENE reached a high level of maturity to predict core turbulence.

Effect of energetic ions on edge-localized modes in tokamak plasmas
