Biexciton fine structure in monolayer transition metal dichalcogenides

Biexcitons play an important role in determining the optical properties of transition metal dichalcogenide monolayers, but their precise structure is poorly understood. Using a combination of ultrafast spectroscopy and theory, the origin of their fine structure is revealed.

Microbial short-chain fatty acids modulate CD8⁺ T cell responses and improve adoptive immunotherapy for cancer

The activity of immune cells can be regulated by the microbiome. Here, the authors show that the fatty acids pentanoate and butyrate—normally released by the microbiome—increase the anti-tumour activity of cytotoxic T lymphocytes and chimeric antigen receptor T cells through metabolic and epigenetic reprogramming.

The short-chain fatty acid pentanoate suppresses autoimmunity by modulating the metabolic-epigenetic crosstalk in lymphocytes

Short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs) have immunomodulatory effects, but the underlying mechanisms are still unclear. Here the authors show that a SCFA, pentanoate, suppresses autoimmune inflammation in mouse models of colitis and multiple sclerosis via epigenetic modulation of immune cell metabolic and functional pathways.
