Deciphering the role of complement system genes in pancreatic cancer susceptibility and prognosis

The role of the complement system (CS) - part of the immune system - in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) remains underexplored. Here, the authors evaluate the association of genetic variants in CS-related genes with PDAC risk, and explore their potential role in prognosis and immune infiltration.

ISG15 and ISGylation is required for pancreatic cancer stem cell mitophagy and metabolic plasticity

The ubiquitin-like modifier ISG15 exerts post-translational protein regulation through ISGylation. Here, the authors show that ISGylation is necessary for pancreatic cancer stem cell self-renewal and tumourigenesis by supporting the recycling of non-functional mitochondria.

Recurrent inactivation of STAG2 in bladder cancer is not associated with aneuploidy

Francisco Real and colleagues report exome sequencing in urothelial bladder tumors. They show that STAG2, a subunit of the cohesin complex, is recurrently mutated and provide evidence that STAG2 loss does not lead to increases in aneuploidy.
