The parametric response map is an imaging biomarker for early cancer treatment outcome

In this study, Galbán and his colleagues describe a voxel-wise approach for the quantification of tumor microvasculature properties from perfusion magnetic resonance imaging data. When compared to the standard method of using region of interest analysis of changes in relative cerebral blood flow and volume, the parametric response map approach was found to be more predictive of treatment outcomes and overall survival in individuals with high-grade glioma.

Mitochondrial complex II in intestinal epithelial cells regulates T cell-mediated immunopathology

Intestinal epithelial cell (IEC) damage by T cells contributes to alloimmune, autoimmune and iatrogenic diseases such as graft-versus-host and inflammatory bowel disease. Here the authors identify a critical role for the alteration of the IEC-specific mitochondrial complex II component succinate dehydrogenase A in the regulation of the severity of T cell-mediated intestinal diseases.

Murine models of IDH-wild-type glioblastoma exhibit spatial segregation of tumor initiation and manifestation during evolution

Recent studies suggest spatial segregation of tumor initiation and manifestation in IDH-WT glioblastomas. Here, the authors use serial MRI/3D-reconstruction, whole-genome sequencing and spectral karyotyping-based single-cell phylogenetic tree building to establish this unique evolutionary mode in a murine model.

Computed tomography–based biomarker provides unique signature for diagnosis of COPD phenotypes and disease progression

Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is now known to be a heterogeneous disorder, hence the pressing need to develop imaging biomarkers to differentiate between the broad range of COPD phenotypes–all of which require different treatments. Here, Craig Galban and his colleagues have adapted the parametric response map technique for the voxel-by-voxel classification analysis of CT lung images taken from a national COPD trial, providing a more objective characterization of the phenotypic contributions of functional small airways disease and emphysema in COPD.
