Mitochondrial RNA cytosolic leakage drives the SASP

Here the authors show that mitochondrial RNA leaks into the cytosol of senescent cells through sublethal apoptosis, driving inflammation. Blocking this pathway improves outcomes in Metabolic Dysfunction-Associated Steatohepatitis.

Bax monomers form dimer units in the membrane that further self-assemble into multiple oligomeric species

The proapoptotic protein Bax triggers cell death by forming pores in the outer mitochondrial membrane. Using single-particle TIRF imaging, the authors show that Bax binds the membrane in a monomeric state before forming dimers and multimers of dimers, which are disassembled by the survival protein Bcl-xL.

7-Dehydrocholesterol is an endogenous suppressor of ferroptosis

Proferroptotic activity of 7-dehydrocholesterol reductase is shown along with an unexpected prosurvival function of its substrate, 7-dehydrocholesterol, indicating a cell-intrinsic mechanism that could be used by cancer cells to protect phospholipids from oxidative damage and escape ferroptosis.
