PD-L1⁺ plasma cells suppress T lymphocyte responses in patients with sepsis and mouse sepsis models

Sepsis induces a period of immunosuppression which can be problematic in the face of subsequent infectious challenge. Here the authors show the presence of PD-L1 expressing regulatory plasma cells that can inhibit T cells in a murine model and in patients with sepsis.

A miR-150/TET3 pathway regulates the generation of mouse and human non-classical monocyte subset

A decrease in the fraction of non-classical monocytes is a hallmark of chronic myelomonocytic leukaemia. Taking advantage of this abnormal situation, the authors identify a mechanistic link between miR-150 and TET3 as being involved in monocyte subset generation.

Si_0.97Ge_0.03 microelectronic thermoelectric generators with high power and voltage densities

Thermoelectric generators with a small size are unable to produce enough high voltage and power levels to run Si integrated circuits using commonly encountered temperature differences. Here, the authors present microelectronic thermoelectric generators using Si0.97Ge0.03 to solve the problem.

Silicon integrated circuit thermoelectric generators with a high specific power generation capacity

Thermoelectric generators based on nanostructured silicon thermopiles, which are fabricated on an industrial silicon CMOS process line and are thus compatible with integrated circuit technology, exhibit a high specific power generation capacity of up to 29 μW cm⁻² K⁻² near room temperature.

Interaction between synthetic particles and biomacromolecules: fundamental study of nonspecific interaction and design of nanoparticles that recognize target molecules

The interaction between synthetic particles and proteins has been studied to identify factors that govern the interaction in vitro. The composition and properties of the protein corona that forms on the surface of NPs have been studied in vivo. Recently, synthetic NPs that recognize target molecules are designed and prepared by optimizing the combination of functional groups on the particles, molecular imprinting, in combination with the affinity purification. Some particles are capable of recognizing target molecules and neutralizing their function, in the bloodstream of living animals, as ‘plastic antibodies.’
