  • Heteromultivalency, which involves the simultaneous interactions of more than one type of ligand with more than one type of receptor, is common in biological systems but challenging to engineer artificially. Now, a heteromultivalent platform prepared by co-assembling cyclodextrin and calixarene amphiphiles has shown self-adaptive peptide binding with high affinity. The platform was used to sequester amyloid β-peptides, reducing amyloid cytotoxicity.

  • Synthesis of aromatic belts with embedded thiophene structures, which manifest significant optoelectronic and conductive properties, has not yet been achieved. Herein, the authors report the synthesis of thiophene-fused aromatic belts via one-step sulfur cross-linking reaction of partially fluorinated cycloparaphenylenes.

  • The realisation of 4D light fields, where longitudinal polarisation represents the fourth dimension, has been limited by the lack of appropriate analysis techniques. Here, the authors use interaction with self-assembled monolayers of fluorescent molecules, which allow for identification of non-paraxial light fields based on a single image frame.
