  • Obesity-related subfertility is an increasingly recognized concern. Pharmacotherapies (particularly glucagon-like peptide 1 receptor agonists and combination therapies), alongside lifestyle intervention, enable meaningful and sustainable weight loss in people with and without type 2 diabetes mellitus. Weight loss can benefit sperm parameters, but the optimal amount and rate of weight loss requires further study.

  • Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is the most common endocrine disorder in women. This article provides an overview of the pathophysiology, aetiology, diagnosis, and management of the most common presenting features of PCOS, including hyperandrogenism, menstrual irregularity and infertility. Management of cardiometabolic risk, an important concern in these patients, is also discussed.

  • COVID-19 has been shown to be associated with a higher mortality rate in men than in women. In this Perspectives article, the authors posit that this disparity is due to a failure to invest in men’s health and discuss the biological, social and economic factors that have contributed to the sex disparities in mortality from COVID-19, as well as considering how a streamlined men’s health programme with the urologist in a central role could address these issues.
