A cross-dehydrogenative C(sp³)−H heteroarylation via photo-induced catalytic chlorine radical generation

Hydrogen atom abstraction from C(sp³)–H bonds of naturally abundant alkanes for alkyl radical generation represents a promising yet underexplored strategy in the alkylation reaction designs. Here the authors show a photo-induced and chemical oxidant-free cross-dehydrogenative coupling between alkanes and heteroarenes using catalytic chloride and cobalt catalyst.

Direct deoxygenative borylation of carboxylic acids

Converting a carboxylic acid into a boronic acid, which makes a useful chemical handle from a feedstock chemical, currently relies on decarboxylation and requires metal catalysts and prior functionalization. Acceptorless cross-dehydrogenative coupling for C(sp³)-H heteroarylation mediated by a heterogeneous GaN/ketone photocatalyst/photosensitizer system

Cross-dehydrogenative coupling is an efficient route for C–C bond formation by direct C–H functionalization, however, this protocol usually requires stoichiometric oxidants under harsh reaction conditions. Here, the authors report a cross-dehydrogenative Minisci-alkylation using a heterogeneous Rh₂O₃/GaN photocatalyst and a benzophenone photosensitizer under oxidant-free conditions.

Oral squamous cell carcinoma is a prevalent malignancy in Taiwan. Here, the authors show that OSCC in Taiwanese show a frequent deletion polymorphism in the cytidine deaminases gene cluster APOBEC3 resulting in increased expression of A3A, which is shown to be of clinical prognostic relevance.

HGK/MAP4K4 deficiency induces TRAF2 stabilization and Th17 differentiation leading to insulin resistance

HGK kinase is involved in signalling in many cell types but its function in T cells remains unclear. Here, using T-cell-specific HGK knockout mice, the authors show that HGK prevents the development of systemic inflammation and insulin resistance by inhibiting production of the proinflammatory cytokines IL-6 and IL-17.

Meng-Hsuan Lin et al. investigate MERS-CoV macro domain binding selectivity with NAD and NAD metabolites under various conditions.
