Neural xenografts contribute to long-term recovery in stroke via molecular graft-host crosstalk

In this study, Weber et al., investigate the long-term survival and integration of human stem cell-derived neural progenitors into the stroke-injured mouse brains. They report grafted cells integrate into host circuits and mediate repair through graft-host crosstalk via neurexin, neuregulin, neural cell adhesion molecules, and SLIT signalling pathways.

Targeting RNA structure in SMN2 reverses spinal muscular atrophy molecular phenotypes

Spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) is an autosomal recessive disorder with no present cure. Here the authors perform an in vitro screening leading to the identification of a small molecule that alters the conformational dynamics of the TSL2 RNA structure and acts as a modulator of SMN exon 7 splicing.

Whilst terahertz optical spectroscopy allows for the study of coupled spin and lattice excitations, it is limited in momentum space. Here, the authors use inelastic x-ray scattering to demonstrate strong magnon-phonon coupling and electromagnon excitations across the Brillouin zone of LiCrO₂.
