White et al show using quantitative imaging and optical tweezers that in tobacco leaf cells, the Miro2 GTPase promotes mitochondrial fusion and attachment to the ER. This is in contrast to metazoans where Miro mainly controls mitochondrial motility, with additional GTPases affecting fusion.
