Spinon excitations and spin correlations in the one-dimensional quantum magnet β-VOSO₄ probed by Raman spectroscopy

Quantum entanglement plays a key role in contemporary condensed matter research, yet it remains highly elusive from an experimental standpoint. Here, the authors demonstrate that entangled quantum states are accessible through spinon excitations in a one-dimensional spin chain using Raman spectroscopy.

Unconventional bipartite entanglement in the quantum dimer magnet Yb₂Be₂SiO₇

The Shastry-Sutherland model consists of orthogonal dimers in a two dimensional plane, and has proved a rich basis for both theoretical and experimental investigation of quantum magnetism. Here, Brassington et al show that Yb2Be2SiO7 hosts an anisotropic variant of the Shastry Sutherland model.

Frustrated magnetic materials attract significant interest because their properties can become dominated by quantum fluctuations. Here the authors show that excitations in the plateau phase of a quantum magnet can be understood semiclassically even though the ground state involves strong quantum effects.
