Massive-scale spatial multiplexing of multimode VCSELs with a 3D-printed photonic lantern

This work demonstrates a 3D-printed photonic lantern that efficiently combines many multimode VCSELs into a single multimode fiber with low loss, preserving brightness and enabling compact, scalable high-power laser systems.

Free-standing microscale photonic lantern spatial mode (De-)multiplexer fabricated using 3D nanoprinting

A diminutive 3D nano-printed photonic lantern supporting multiplexing of six input sources to a six-mode optical fiber is demonstrated, at 375 μm total length, exhibiting low insertion, polarization and mode-dependent loss.
