Coupling of plasmonic and optical cavity modes in quasi-three-dimensional plasmonic crystals

Quasi-three-dimensional plasmonic crystals have potential uses in miniaturized photonics. In this study, a method is described to enhance plasmonic resonance in the crystals by coupling them to optical modes of Fabry–Perot type cavities, with possible applications in photonic and sensor components.

Actively addressed single pixel full-colour plasmonic display

Tuning of plasmonic nanostructures has yet to cover a full colour basis set with a single nanostructure. Franklinet al. demonstrate a liquid crystal-plasmonic system that covers the full red-green-blue colour basis set as a function of voltage and which can be actively addressed with thin-film-transistor technology.

Polarization-independent actively tunable colour generation on imprinted plasmonic surfaces

Plasmonic nanostructures are a promising alternative to conventional pixels, where their characteristics at the nanoscale offer many benefits. Franklin et al. combine plasmonic surfaces with liquid crystals to create voltage-tunable polarization-independent color pixels for reflective displays.

Dirac plasmon-assisted asymmetric hot carrier generation for room-temperature infrared detection

Designing electronically asymmetric environment across monolayer graphene enhances the photo-thermoelectric effect and enables efficient infrared photodetection. Here, the authors report a photodetector based on CVD grown nano-patterned graphene with high responsivity of ~2900 V/W within 8–12 µm wavelength regime by Dirac plasmon-assisted hot carrier generation at room-temperature.
