A mid-infrared Brillouin laser using ultra-high-Q on-chip resonators

Here the authors developed on-chip microresonators with a remarkable Q-factor of 38 million and demonstrated on-chip Brillouin lasing in the mid-infrared. These results highlight opportunities to create more compact and efficient platforms for molecular science.

Universal light-guiding geometry for on-chip resonators having extremely high Q-factor

High-Q resonators are used to enhance nonlinear phenomena in photonics, but developing a fabrication process to shape a new material into a resonator is challenging and costly. Here, the authors present a method using vapour deposition on pre-patterned substrates to fabricate resonators with any new material.

Photonic-chip-based radio-frequency spectrum analyser with terahertz bandwidth

A system based on a highly nonlinear planar chalcogenide waveguide is demonstrated to be able to perform radio-frequency spectral measurements with a terahertz bandwidth. High bit-rate tests show that the chip-based system is potentially useful for ultrafast signal processing.

Ultrafast all-optical second harmonic wavefront shaping

Enhancing the data encoding into the orbital angular momentum of light beams could enable faster and more efficient optical communications. This work demonstrates complex control of the second harmonic wavefront with dynamics solely limited by the pulse duration.

Enhancing and inhibiting stimulated Brillouin scattering in photonic integrated circuits

On-chip nonlinear optics can be used to manipulate classical or quantum signals but enhancement of competing nonlinear processes can cause signal distortion.
