Charge-density-wave (CDW) materials are an ideal platform for exploring the complex interactions between lattice dynamics and quantum order. Here, the authors use time- and angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy to demonstrate that CDW gap closure in VTe2 is driven by incoherent processes, providing a universal framework for light-induced phase transitions in CDW systems.
