Controlling Coulomb correlations and fine structure of quasi-one-dimensional excitons by magnetic order

The antiferromagnetic-to-paramagnetic phase transition in a two-dimensional semiconducting magnet, CrSBr, induces an exciton confinement transition from a strongly bound quasi-one-dimensional state to a weakly bound interlayer-delocalized state.

Subcycle nano-videography of charge-transfer dynamics in WSe₂/WS₂ heterostructures is obtained by using a terahertz near-field microscopy. The central idea is to probe the local polarizability of electron–hole pairs with evanescent terahertz fields.

Cyanate and urea are substrates for nitrification by Thaumarchaeota in the marine environment

Thaumarchaeota isolates are capable of utilizing urea and cyanate for nitrification in vitro. Here, the authors show that this occurs in situ and that Thaumarchaeota are able to use urea and cyanate as an energy and nitrogen source in the marine environment.

Unifying the global phylogeny and environmental distribution of ammonia-oxidising archaea based on amoA genes

Ammonia-oxidising archaea (AOA) were only discovered a little over a decade ago and remain poorly characterized despite their ubiquity and importance for nitrogen cycling. Here, the authors define a taxonomy of AOA based on a resolved amoA phylogeny and describe emergent global patterns in AOA diversity.
