Despite decades of research, two-dimensional ferromagnetic-ferroelastic multiferroicity remains elusive, hindering advancements in magneto-elastic nanodevices. Here, the authors reveal that Co2Cl2 monolayers exhibit multiferroicity with strain-switchable phases and high critical temperatures, offering significant potential for future device applications.
