Poly(vinylidene fluoride) typically exhibits a negligible electrocaloric effect, while the derived ferroelectric terpolymers are expensive and have a narrow temperature window. Here, the authors report that poly(vinylidene fluoride) films prepared by solid-phase pressure forming show a giant electrocaloric effect over a wide temperature window.
