Distinguishing surface rain from snow in real time is crucial for winter storm warnings. This study presents “RePPIC-Net”, a hybrid AI model that fuses satellite data with AI weather forecasts to decipher snow from rain with rapid speed and accuracy, paving the way for improved global hazard alerts.
