VAL1 acts as an assembly platform co-ordinating co-transcriptional repression and chromatin regulation at Arabidopsis FLC

Cold-induced silencing of Arabidopsis FLC requires the binding of VAL1 to an intronic motif. Here, the authors show that ASAP and PRC1, two interacting partner complexes of VAL1, mediate co-transcriptional repression and chromatin modulation to effectively co-ordinate different steps in FLC silencing.

O-glycosylation of the transcription factor SPATULA promotes style development in Arabidopsis

The Arabidopsis O-glycosyltransferases SEC and SPY modify the transcription factor SPT and synergistically promote style elongation. Specific SPT residues modified by O-GlcNAc and O-fucose are essential for style radialization.

Discovery of isoflavone phytoalexins in wheat reveals an alternative route to isoflavonoid biosynthesis

Isoflavones are mostly found in the legumes, and little is known about their formation outside of this family. Here, the authors discover an isoflavone synthase gene in wheat, found in a pathogen-induced gene cluster encoding isoflavone biosynthesis.
