Deep learning-based image analysis predicts PD-L1 status from H&E-stained histopathology images in breast cancer

Programmed death ligand-1 (PD-L1) has been recently adopted for breast cancer as a predictive biomarker for immunotherapies. Here, the authors show that PD-L1 expression can be predicted from H&E-stained images using deep learning.

Neoadjuvant anti-PD-1 alone or in combination with anti-TIGIT or an oncolytic virus in resectable stage IIIB–D melanoma: a phase 1/2 trial

In an ongoing adaptive-design trial exploring different combinations of neoadjuvant immunotherapies including the anti-PD-1 agent pembrolizumab, the anti-TIGIT agent vibostolimab and the oncolytic virus gebasaxturev, neoadjuvant pembrolizumab-based regimens elicited encouraging clinical responses in patients with resectable melanoma.

Gut microbiota dependent anti-tumor immunity restricts melanoma growth in Rnf5^−/− mice

RNF5 is a ubiquitin ligase regulating ER stress response. Here the authors show that Rnf5 deficiency potentiates immune response against melanoma via altered microbiota, and isolate bacterial strains that confer the same phenotype to wild type mice.

ARTS mediates apoptosis and regeneration of the intestinal stem cell niche

The mechanisms regulating intestinal stem cell elimination remain unclear. Here, the authors identify that the pro-apoptotic protein ARTS (a Septin4 isoform) interacts with XIAP in the intestinal stem cell niche to regulate stem cell survival during intestinal homeostasis and regeneration.
