The mechanism by which RNAPII transcribes the DNA in the chromatosome with H1 has remained enigmatic. Here the authors present the cryo-EM structures of the RNAPII-chromatosome complexes, and explain how RNAPII is regulated by H1 in chromatin.

Structural basis of eukaryotic transcription termination by the Rat1 exonuclease complex

The Rat1 RNase helps terminate eukaryotic mRNA transcription. Here, the authors report the cryo-EM structures of the Rat1-Rai1-Rtt103 and the Rat1-Rai1-RNAPII complexes, illustrating the mechanism of mRNA transcription termination.

ERK2-topoisomerase II regulatory axis is important for gene activation in immediate early genes

Topoisomerase II (TOP2) has been identified as one of the regulators for the transcriptional activation of immediate early genes IEGs. Here the authors report that ERK1 and ERK2 oppositely regulate transcription and ERK2 regulates TOP2B-DNA interaction and catalysis to favor IEG transcription.
