Acetylene hydrochlorination produces polyvinyl chloride (PVC) precursors but relies on toxic Hg-based catalysts. Here a Hg free cascade system is used to electrochemically generate C₂H₄ and Cl₂ and thermocatalytically convert them into high-purity PVC precursor with near-complete C₂H₂ conversion.
