  • Infrared (IR) transmissive polymeric materials for optical elements require a balance between their optical and thermal properties but achieving simultaneously a high refractive index and IR transparency in the long wavelength infrared region in polymer materials is challenging. Here the authors demonstrate inverse vulcanization of 1,3,5-benzenetrithiol (BTT) to achieve a long wavelength IR transparent material without sacrificing on the thermal properties.

  • The synthesis and characterization of the organic solvent-soluble polymer containing 1,3,4,6,9b-pentaazaphenalene are presented. From the series of the optical measurements and the comparison studies with the model compounds, we investigated the electronic structures through the polymer main chains involving the azaphenalene unit.
