Infrared (IR) transmissive polymeric materials for optical elements require a balance between their optical and thermal properties but achieving simultaneously a high refractive index and IR transparency in the long wavelength infrared region in polymer materials is challenging. Here the authors demonstrate inverse vulcanization of 1,3,5-benzenetrithiol (BTT) to achieve a long wavelength IR transparent material without sacrificing on the thermal properties.
