  • Methods to silence broadband noise and shield large volumes are lacking. Here, the authors show theoretically and experimentally that acoustic bianisotropic materials, with non-zero strain to momentum coupling, lead to effective sound barriers with excellent efficiency in terms of attenuation, bandwidth, and shielded volume.

  • Scattered elastic waves provide non-invasive diagnostics and dynamic characterization of metamaterials, but extracting information from small-size samples is challenging. Here, convolutional neural networks are used to interpret diffracted waves, revealing how sample-edge scattering provides the most significant information on macroscopic metamaterial properties.

  • Kim et al. conducted single-cell RNA sequencing to determine the transcriptome profiles of human nail units using polydactyly specimens to demonstrate mesenchymal and epithelial cell populations, characterized by RSPO4 and SPINK6 respectively. RSPO4 + onychofibroblasts localized with LGR6 + nail matrix, leading to WNT/ β-catenin activation and suggesting a role for onychofibroblasts in onychomatricoma pathogenesis.
