  • Using lattice-driven gating, a copper-based zeolitic imidazolate framework (Cu-ZIF-gis) with ultra-narrow 2.4 Å channels demonstrates efficient hydrogen isotope separation at high temperatures (above 120 K). This innovation leverages temperature-induced aperture adjustments to achieve sustainable and energy-efficient isotope separation, which is suitable for integration with existing LNG cryogenic infrastructure.

  • Understanding the spin dynamics in magnetic nanostructures is important for spintronics, but so far it has been impossible to probe the spin dynamics directly. A neutron-scattering technique providing direct information about dynamical two-spin correlations in a molecular nanomagnet has now been demonstrated.

  • Phonon lifetime is a fundamental parameter of thermal transport however its determination is challenging. Using inelastic neutron scattering and the neutron resonant spin-echo technique, Lory et al. determine the acoustic phonon lifetime in a single crystal of clathrate Ba7.81Ge40.67Au5.33.

  • A detailed and systematic neutron scattering study of rare-earth pyrochlore magnet Pr2Hf2O7 provides evidence for a quantum spin ice state, and emergent lattice quantum electrodynamics consistent with theoretical predictions.
