Robust fractional quantum Hall effect in the N=2 Landau level in bilayer graphene

Electron-electron interactions in many-body systems may manifest themselves through the fractional quantum Hall effect. Here, the authors perform transport measurements in bilayer graphene, and observe particle-hole symmetric fractional quantum Hall states in theN=2 Landau level.

45.5-tesla direct-current magnetic field generated with a high-temperature superconducting magnet

A copper oxide high-temperature superconductor magnet generates a direct-current magnetic field of 45.5 tesla—the highest value reported so far—using a design that enables operation at high current densities.

Anomalous Landau quantization in intrinsic magnetic topological insulators

A route for a strong increase of critical current in nanostrained iron-based superconductors

Simultaneous increase of critical temperature and critical current in superconductors is desirable for application purpose, but very difficult to realize. Here, Ozaki et al. report a simultaneous enhancement of T_c and J_c in FeSe_0.5Te_0.5films with cascade defects produced by low-energy proton irradiation.

Optimizing vortex pinning in YBa₂Cu₃O_7-x superconducting films up to high magnetic fields

Optimizing the microstructure of YBa₂Cu₃O_7-x coated conductors across the magnetic field–temperature phase diagram is important for strengthening vortex pinning and thereby enhancing the critical current. Here, a systematic microstructural investigation identifies the most relevant vortex pinning contributions in a broad range of temperatures and magnetic fields.
