  • Vegetation greening is traditionally thought to increase evapotranspiration and reduce streamflow, posing a challenge for balancing ecosystem restoration with water supply. This study reveals that greening can enhance both evapotranspiration and streamflow, particularly in semi-arid regions through albedo-driven, energy-mediated increases in the efficiency with which atmospheric moisture is converted into precipitation.

  • IL-17 mediated inflammation in the lung is mediated by different effector molecules. Here the authors show that the epigenetic regulator epithelial sirtuin 6 (Sirt6) is associated with lung inflammation in asthma patients and that Sirt6 contributes to promotion of inflammation in mouse asthma models.

  • Robot-assisted surgery relies heavily on vision and generally integrates medical imaging for diagnostic and/or navigation purposes with robots that offer accurate surgical functions. This Perspective discusses how large vision models can enhance vision-related tasks in robot-assisted surgery transforming ‘surgical robots’ into ‘robotic surgeons’.
