Arf6-driven cell invasion is intrinsically linked to TRAK1-mediated mitochondrial anterograde trafficking to avoid oxidative catastrophe

Mitochondria subcellular localization is dynamically regulated during migration. Here, the authors show that Arf6–AMAP1 dependent ILK localization at focal adhesions reduces mitochondrial retrograde trafficking in migratory cells and prevents mitochondrial aggregation and detrimental ROS production.

Cell competition with normal epithelial cells promotes apical extrusion of transformed cells through metabolic changes

Fujita et al. find that normal epithelial cells induce metabolic changes in adjacent transformed cells, causing their apical extrusion. The effect is conveyed non-cell-autonomously and relies on PDK4-mediated inhibition of mitochondrial function.

Lysosomal trafficking mediated by Arl8b and BORC promotes invasion of cancer cells that survive radiation

Wu et al. discover a role for Arl8b-dependent lysosomal trafficking and exocytosis in promoting invasion and metastasis of breast cancer cells and tumours that survive irradiation treatment. These findings provide insights that may aid future strategies to improve radiotherapy outcome.
