BMI1 regulates androgen receptor in prostate cancer independently of the polycomb repressive complex 1

The polycomb group protein BMI1 is highly expressed in prostate cancer. Here, the authors demonstrate that BMI1 directly interacts with AR leading to increased AR signaling independently of PRC1 complex and that targeting BMI1 inhibits tumor growth of castration-resistant prostate cancer tumors.

Distinct classes of chromosomal rearrangements create oncogenic ETS gene fusions in prostate cancer

Distinct translocation mechanisms and additional translocation partners for ETS genes are found in prostate cancer. This study also provides the first functional evidence that ETS gene deregulation can promote cancer cell invasion in cell lines and pre-malignant prostate lesions in a transgenic mouse model.

Metabolomic profiles delineate potential role for sarcosine in prostate cancer progression

A systematic analysis of metabolites in prostate cancer samples has led to the identification of sarcosine as a putative biomarker detectable in urine, which could potentially be used to aid prostate cancer diagnosis. Sarcosine promotes the invasion of prostate cancer cells and may play a role in metastasis.
