Electrochemical conversion of carbon dioxide in molten carbonates is proposed to proceed through multiple reaction pathways. Here, the authors report operando Raman spectroelectrochemistry reveals spectral features consistent with a peroxide intermediate forming concurrently with carbon deposition.
