  • Complex I (NADH:ubiquinone oxidoreductase) is the first enzyme of the respiratory chain in bacteria and mitochondria. Here, the authors present cryo-EM and crystal structures of T. thermophilus complex I in different conformational states and further analyse them by Normal Mode Analysis and molecular dynamics simulations and conclude that quinone redox reactions are important for the coupling mechanism of complex I.

  • The atomic structure of ovine mitochondrial complex I is solved at 3.9 Å resolution, revealing that supernumerary subunits stabilize the complex and providing insight into the molecular basis of its function and regulation.

  • Pazicky et al. describe the structures of glideosome trimeric complexes consisting of myosin A, essential light chain (ELC) and myosin light chain in T. gondii and P. falciparum. They show that ELCs enhance MyoA performance by inducing secondary structure in MyoA, stiffening its lever arm and calcium binding has no influence on ELC structure. These findings provide insight into this important virulence machinery.
