Observation of a massive phason in a charge-density-wave insulator

We report the observation of narrowband terahertz emission from a quasi-one-dimensional charge-density-wave insulator, (TaSe₄)₂I. The origin of the emitted radiation is interpreted as a phason that obtains mass due to the long-range Coulomb interaction.

Electric quadrupole second-harmonic generation revealing dual magnetic orders in a magnetic Weyl semimetal

Optical second-harmonic waves are generated from the electric quadrupole contribution in a centrosymmetric magnetic Weyl semimetal Co₃Sn₂S₂. Two magnetic orders and phase transitions are explored in temperature-dependent rotational anisotropy measurements by second-harmonic generation.
