Tiny forces cause E. coli RNA polymerase to slide along DNA after transcription termination at up to 700 bp/s. In this paper, the authors use magnetic tweezers to show that sliding complexes containing complete alpha C-terminal domains repeat transcription from protein roadblocks sites and promoters in either orientation.
