A survival selection strategy for engineering synthetic binding proteins that specifically recognize post-translationally phosphorylated proteins

Protein phosphorylation helps to control many important cellular activities. Here the authors describe a genetic selection strategy to isolate designed ankyrin repeat proteins that bind specifically to phosphomodified targets.

A specific prelimbic-nucleus accumbens pathway controls resilience versus vulnerability to food addiction

Food addiction is linked to obesity and eating disorders. In a mouse model of food addiction, the authors show that a medial prefrontal cortex-nucleus accumbens pathway is involved in vulnerability and resilience against the development of food addiction-like behavior.

Measurement of the inelastic proton–proton cross-section at √s=7 TeV with the ATLAS detector

The measurement of the total cross-section of proton–proton collisions is of fundamental importance for particle physics. Here, the first measurement of the inelastic cross-section is presented for proton–proton collisions at an energy of 7 teraelectronvolts using the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider.

The iron–sulphur cluster in human DNA2 is required for all biochemical activities of DNA2

Mariotti et al. show that the iron-sulphur cluster in human DNA2 is required for its nuclease, helicase and ATPase activities. This study highlights the structural importance of the iron-sulphur cluster in human DNA2 and presents a separate redox-regulatory mechanism that controls DNA binding.
