Here the authors measure metabolic changes in human monocytes from different aged donors and find enhanced oxidative phosphorylation fueling myeloid differentiation in neonates which contrasts glycolytic responses in early childhood and more effective inflammatory response.

  • An X-ray crystal structure of sarcoplasmic reticulum Ca2+-ATPase (SERCA) in the presence of sarcolipin, a SERCA regulator, is presented; the structure shows that sarcolipin traps SERCA in a previously unidentified ‘open’ state in which its high-affinity Ca2+-binding sites are unoccupied, but accessible from the cytoplasm.

  • The human silencing hub (HUSH) complex, which includes TASOR, deposits repressive marks on HIV proviruses, resulting in gene repression.
