Emergence of charge order from the vortex state of a high-temperature superconductor

The recent discovery of charge order in YBa₂Cu₃O_y was unexpected. A systematic study of the evolution of this phenomenon as a function of magnetic field conducted by Wu et al. reveals how the competition between charge order and superconductivity may actually be universal to the underdoped cuprates.

Signatures of two gaps in the spin susceptibility of a cuprate superconductor

Measurements of the spin susceptibility in a model cuprate reveal the presence of two distinct gaps underlying the pseudogap behaviour. One gap is attributed to charge density waves and the other to the predicted formation of spin singlets.

The nature and universality of the ordering phenomena observed in the normal state of high-temperature superconductors remain unclear. Here, Wu et al. observe several aspects of incipient charge ordering in YBCO via NMR measurements, clarifying the role of quenched disorder in their emergence.

Locally commensurate charge-density wave with three-unit-cell periodicity in YBa₂Cu₃O_y

Understanding cuprate superconductors requires better knowledge of the microscopic structure of their charge-density waves (CDW). Here, the authors report evidence that the long-range CDW order in YBa₂Cu₃O_y has a local commensurate period of three unit cells.

Homologous recombination deficiency derived from whole-genome sequencing predicts platinum response in triple-negative breast cancers

Homologous recombination deficiency is linked with platinum-based chemotherapy response in triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) but methods to clinically identify these patients are lacking. Here, using patient-derived xenografts of TNBC the authors demonstrate that shallow HRD is predictive of response to platinum-based chemotherapy.

Hidden magnetism at the pseudogap critical point of a cuprate superconductor

NMR and ultrasound measurements show that the spin-glass phase exists in a cuprate all the way up to the doping that marks the end of the pseudogap phase. This highlights the possible connection between the pseudogap and Mott physics.
