  • Interacting electrons in one dimension are predicted to have independent spin and charge excitations. Wakehamet al. show evidence of this behaviour in a bulk conductor by measuring a ratio of thermal to electrical conductivity orders of magnitude larger than in conventional three-dimensional metals.

  • There are few reports of ferroelectricity due to symmetry breaking transition in A-site-ordered quadruple perovskites. Here, the authors find one with phase transition from a high-temperature centrosymmetric paraelectric phase to a low-temperature non-centrosymmetric ferroelectric phase in a high pressure synthesized compound.

  • Double corundum-related polar magnets are promising for multiferroic and magnetoelectric applications in spintronics, but are limited by the challenging design and synthesis. Here the authors report the synthesis of Mn2MnWO6 as well as its appealing multiferroic and magnetoelectric properties.
