Comparative analysis of senolytic drugs reveals mitochondrial determinants of efficacy and resistance

Wakita et al. systematically compare the efficacy of 21 senolytics and identify a subpopulation of senolytic-resistant cells. They demonstrate a mitochondrial basis of senolytic resistance and show that metabolic interventions enhance senescent cell clearance in vivo.

Gut bacteria identified in colorectal cancer patients promote tumourigenesis via butyrate secretion

Several bacteria in the gut microbiota have been associated with colorectal cancer (CRC) but it is not completely clear whether they have a role in tumourigenesis. A BET family protein degrader provokes senolysis by targeting NHEJ and autophagy in senescent cells

SARS-CoV-2 infection triggers paracrine senescence and leads to a sustained senescence-associated inflammatory response

This study shows that SARS-CoV-2 infection induces paracrine senescence in adjacent uninfected cells via virus-induced cytokine secretion. This resulted in a persistent inflammatory response associated with senescence even after SARS-CoV-2 disappearance.
